Course Description

This course will focus on American history from the end of Reconstruction to the recent past . Themes that we will address in this course include: interactions between the U.S. government and Native American cultures; industrialization and its effects on American society, economy, and political processes; immigration and the changing demographics of the United States; settlement patterns of South Dakota and the Great Plains Region; Progressivism and the struggle for social justice; change and continuity in U.S. foreign policy; World War I; social changes in the 1920s; the Great Depression and the New Deal; World War II; post-war affluence and social change including the Cold War, anti-communism, and civil rights; the Vietnam War and the Great Society; the political realignment of the Reagan years and the post 9/11 era.

 

Assignments:

50% of your grade will be based upon assignments and projects.

Tests and quizzes: 50% of your grade is comprised of tests and quizzes.

Grading Scale A 93 – 100

B 86 - 92

C 78 - 85

D 70 - 77

F 69 or below
