GEOGRAPHY COURSE OUTLINE

 

•  Introduction

The purpose of the Geography Course is to teach students the designated geographical areas with an emphasis on global connections and interdependence. Units include geographical, historical, cultural, political and economic themes. Each student will develop an awareness and appreciation of how the natural environment influences people and how people's activities affect Earth.

•  Objectives

Using a variety of resources and practice, students will be able to:

•  Use and construct maps, charts, and other geographic tools to understand and interpret spatial information about people, places and environments on the earth's surface.

•  Know and apply the five themes of geography.

•  Identify and explain the impact of the natural environment on human settlement patterns.

•  Explain how humans interact with their environment

•  Identify the main characteristics of cultural geography

•  Compare and contrast the differing characteristics in developing and developed countries.

•  Explain how human migration impacts local and global politics, environment, economies, societies and regions.

 

•  Grading Categorization

Assignments: 50% of your grade will be based upon assignments and projects.

(Chapter Assignments = 640 points; Projects = 360 points)

Tests and quizzes: 50% of your grade is comprised of tests and quizzes.

(Chapter tests and quizzes = 900 points; Final exam = 100 points)

B 85 - 92

C 77 - 85

D 70 - 76

F 69 or below
